The Blog Brew Collaboration – Christmas: Christmas Markets all over the Globe.

Covid might still be very much a thing but we really can’t let it dull our Christmas spirit. Especially with how this year has already gone. So as part of the Blog Brew Collaboration this month and sticking to the theme of Christmas I wanted to share some of the top Christmas markets all over the world! Just because we can’t physically travel to them or they might cancelled due to Covid 19 doesn’t mean we need to forget about them, especially because we can keep up the Christmas spirit!

So here are some of the most beautiful Christmas Markets around the globe. Personal opinion and preference pending here! I’m doing this from my preferences and likes, If I miss any awesome Christmas markets let me know in the comments! I wanna research and add those bad boys to my bucket list! I will also be posting which Christmas market was my favourite that Ive been too (Hint: Its in Norway).

And before you say it, no, Winter Wonderland does NOT Make the cut.

None of the photos below are mine except for the Lincoln, Manchester & Oslo Market pictures

Vienna, Belvedere Palace

This Christmas market is a lot smaller than your usual Christmas market, you can go to a larger ones elsewhere in Vienna. This market is open for longer than usual, from mid November all the way through to the New Year which gives such a good time frame to visit. Plus its located in Belvedere and is also hosted along side a palace! A baroque palace! THE Belvedere Palace which I bet is beautiful and absolutely breathtaking when it comes to a Christmas markets, there are plenty of stalls and amusements for all the family but the main focus is on couples for this one.

Sweden, Liseberg

You can head to Liseberg for an incredibly magical and family friendly Christmas market, with endless light shows, loads of Christmas stalls, they have an ice rink which they do shows on for an audience, they also offer Christmas with RABBITS? HOW SICK IS THAT. There is something magical about rabbits at Christmas. plus you’re in Sweden!

New Zealand, Wellington, Underground Market

New Zealand, Wellington has this pretty cool underground markets you can shop in and in the run up to Christmas these markets turn into Christmas stalls! Although this only happens on the weekends throughout December, In the week they are just your normal stalls and admission is completely free.

Canada, Vancouver

I’ve always really wanted to go to Canada, I bet no Christmas market is as magical as a Christmas market in CANADA. Not only do they have Santas Grotto, a kids day, plenty of stalls with for and drink, Christmas presents and gifts. THEY HAVE A WALK IN CHRISTMAS TREE? I don’t know about you guys but I’m moving to Vancouver. Plus a majority of the food and drink is all local or locally sourced, they also have their own mascots? Holly and Jolly! It is also situated right on Vancouver Harbour so you can watch the lights reflect off the water!

Singapore, Gardens by the Bay

I definitely feel this is the most impressive market. With the market itself spanning across 8 football fields of amusements, food, drinks and the most amazing lights, whats not be impressed about? Oh, not to forget it is held in the STUNNING Gardens by the Bay. I don’t think I really need to say much more than that. Not only that but there is also a parade and endless theatrical entertainment! They also offer a Flower Dome. I’ll let you look that one up yourself. AMAZING. BOOKING MY FLIGHT NOW.

Peru, Santurantikuny

Now is Cusco, Peru they don’t so much hold a Christmas Market but a market that is held on December 24th where you go to buy yourself a gift and no one else! This event is actually a National Cultural Event and recognised by National Institute of Cultural Heritage which is Pretty awesome if you ask me. It is based on the Retablos, the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. Santurantikuny stands for ‘Saints for Sale’ and is the largest craft market in Peru.

Birmingham, Frankfurt Style Market

Being from the UK its definitely on my bucket list to go to Birmingham Christmas market, its hugely popular and mimics the Christmas Market in Frankfurt which is what its really popular and well known for, it is also the largest Christmas market outside of Germany! Unfortunately it has been cancelled due to Covid but we continue to be festive. With 80 stalls all Christmas themed and endless mulled wine on every corner its a great place to explore and see friends and family. Birmingham itself is also supposed to be a greta city, so why not check out the rest of it whilst you’re at it?

Markets I’ve been too!

Manchester Christmas Market

After a heavy heavy night at WHP (Warehouse project Manchester) seeing Bicep we were all a bit reluctant to check out the market with the way we were feeling but I am so glad we did it, a hot chocolate with marshmallows and walking between the stalls it was so beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing. It also had some amazing Christmas lights and decorations. We managed to get lucky and go on a really nice day so the weather was glorious but cold and we managed to meet up with a good friend there as well who was in the city the same time we were so it was really great to experience something this GRAND with friends.

Lincoln Christmas Market

I went to university at Lincoln so of course I have visited it every year I was there, unfortunately the first year absolutely killed it for me because I was doing a tourism study on the market so I went up Steep Hill EVERY DAY. It was worth it because of course I got all the data I needed but i also go to experience all different aspects of the market. Lincoln market has so many stalls to offer of all varieties, its really good for your Christmas shopping and the best mulled wine is definitely form the BAR BUS which can usually find outside of the castle walls in the amusement area! Oh yeah, the start of the market is in the castle grounds, how beautiful is that? Its always really enjoyable and also has stalls by the cathedral but its a real shame because the past few years the market has gotten smaller and smaller, so I am hoping that come Christmas 2021 it will be back and teeming with life. It holds a lot of memories with all my friends from Uni and also my family when they visited for the market. Here is hoping for a better Christmassy 2021.

My all time favourite;

Oslo Christmas Market, Norway

This was without a doubt one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! I’d never been to Christmas market in another country so this was such a fun experience. Oslo Christmas market isn’t huge but it has all the essentials from Locally made Christmas gifts and clothes to the yummiest waffle and food stalls. And my god, the mulled wine was the best mulled wine I had ever had. There is a light tunnel you can walk through, an absolutely huge ice rink running through the middle and a beautiful big wheel where you can see the whole market and some of Oslo. They also have two talking moose heads in the bar area and at the entrance and they are SO funny. It was such a great vibe to go with some of my girlfriends as well, such a memorable experience.

Whats been the best Christmas market you’ve ever been too?

The Blog Brew – Drowning Prevention Week: How to be safe in the water.

And we are back with another month of Blog Brew collaboration posts from the girls! This month we are focusing on Awareness days/weeks!

Drowning Prevention Week, How to be safe in the water.

Drowning prevention week is something that is very important to myself. I have always lived by the sea all my life, been a water baby and for 4 summers I was an RNLI Lifeguard for my local beaches. I understand how important it is to be safe when swimming in the ocean and you should too. I will be writing from the perspective of being careful in the sea but this also is the same for swimming pools and any body of water you want to go in so you can #BeALifesaver, the official RLSS Drowning Prevention Week hashtag!

Did you know it takes only 3 minutes for you to drown?

Over 700 people drown every year. Here is how you can swim safely!

Look out for lifeguards.

They are here to help! Most importantly make sure you SWIM BETWEEN THE RED AND YELLOW FLAGS. These flags are there for a reason, it is the safest place to swim on the beach and that area is also being monitored by the lifeguards so if you do get in any trouble for whatever reason they will be there to lend a helping hand. Its the same at a swimming pool, the lifeguards are there to help. If you are swimming in an area where lifeguards do not operate ensure to keep an eye on the points below and be careful.

Its Colder than it looks.

Cold water shock. You know when you run, jump or dive into some cold water and it takes your breath away? That is cold water shock. The shock of the cold water on your body can prevent you from being able to draw breath and this can prevent you form being able to swim or help yourself.

Don’t go too far.

If you are out of your depth and unable to stand you may find the currents are stronger than your swimming ability, which brings us to the next point…

Its stronger than it looks.

Some currents can be so strong it could sweep you away within seconds. Never underestimate and undercurrent. You might not be able to see it but if you can see you’re moving along the shoreline it’s definitely there. A prime example is rip tide. If you swim into a rip tide this will pull you out to sea. If you feel you are being pulled out tot see and unable to swim against this current SWIM SIDEWAYS. A rip current is almost like a funnel of water. If you swim left or right of this funnel you should eventually reach the outside area of the rip tide. Although you are till not save once outside the rip. which bring us to the next point of….

Bringing a friend!

Make sure if you are not a strong swimmer or you want to feel that much safer always ensure to bring a friend and don’t swim alone. Especially if you aren’t confident, if you are then ensure you are nearby lifeguards so they may assist you if you need help!

If at a swimming pool, FOLLOW POOL RULES.

These rules are there for a reason. To look after yourself, your family, your friends and everyone around you. Ensure your own safety and others, make sure to notify the lifeguard if you have any issues.

#BEALIFESAVER this year.

With our beaches having a limited lifeguard presence this year due to Covid-19 remember to swim and stay safe where and when you can, head to the link below to stay safe in the water all year around in pools, open water swimming and the ocean.

#StayHome TV Recommendations – Blog Brew Collab

With everything going on and being in isolation/quarantine lockdown during Covid-19, its a good opportunity to catch up on some shows you may be halfway through, wanting too watch or are wanting to join in with the Tiger King memes!

Ive never really taken the time to watch shows until now, its been really refreshing and I’ve watched SO MUCH MORE than I could have ever anticipated. So here are some recommendations from Netflix, Amazon Prime and more!

TOP BOY; Summerhouse Season 1 & 2 and TOP BOY Season 3 – NETFLIX

If you’re into gritty behind the scenes action of the London drug scene then this is definitely one for you. Sully and Dushane are the main characters and I enjoyed these seasons form start to finish. There is certainly never a dull moment and it keeps you on your toes. How all the storylines link is very clever, insanely action packed.

Breaking Bad – NETFLIX

If there is any time to watch a 5 season series it is now. With phenomenal ratings, a prequel series call Better Call Saul and a MOVIE, This show is a hit and not one to be missed! Underground meth labs and an incredible cast and storyline to go with it, no doubt those who have watched it have definitely told you about it.

Hanna – AMAZON PRIME

For this there is the Film and the TV Series. I would definitely recommend watching the film as it is fantastic. AS IS The Amazon Prime TV Series, consisting of 7 episodes the film only covers so much of the storyline. The TV Series however keeps the storyline going and it is just endlessly action packed and gripping. Definitely another one to binge watch.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness – NETFLIX

NOW THIS ONE, WOW. A documentary rollercoaster of animal rights, misery, mystery and murder. Focusing mainly on GW Zoo in Oklahoma, Joe Exotic runs on of the largest big cat zoos with over 200+ Tigers and other animal, not forgetting THAT BITCH CAROLE BASKIN. I highly recommend as some of the twists and turns within this docu-series are WILD.

Louis Theroux’s Most Dangerous Pets – BBC iPLAYER

If you enjoyed Tiger King and couldn’t get enough of it, then you’re in luck. in 2011 Joe Exotic did an episode with the AMAZING Louis Theroux. You can enjoy Joe Exotic and Louis Theroux all in the same place!

The US Office – AMAZON PRIME

It’s safe to say the US Office will never ever, ever, let us down. The greatest comedy sitcom with Steve Carrell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and so many more iconic actors and actresses I could binge watch this show for hours and hours. Definitely one to lighten the mood with this series for some light watching!

Hunters – AMAZON PRIME

Now this one I would advise that you look into first, I personally thoroughly enjoyed this dive to the way it was filmed and the actors, although it has a lot of reviews for being distasteful and glorifying the holocaust. The main premise is those who survived the holocaust targeting those nazis able to live in the US after everything that happened. Those who mistreated them the most, would most probably end up dead. Personally, I would recommend a watch, especially with Logan Lerman as one of the main stars.

The Staircase – NETFLIX

Another docuseries based on a woman who died from falling down the stairs. Although, the series highlights how, this definitely isn’t the case. Focusing solely on her husband this is another series which makes you THINK. I am highly excited to watch this as I am hugely into scandals and how the story being portrayed is definitely not what happened.

MTV’s (Celebrity) Ex On The Beach – SKY+ / NOW TV

I can safely say after keeping up with this explosive TV show from the start, the seasons just get better and better. What better concept of sending sexy singles to a villa to then watch them crumble as their Ex’s appear out of the sea. Highly recommend this series if you’re wanting something easy going, explosive, entertaining and sometimes some big celebrities (For example the season out at the moment is Celebrity Ex On the Beach, but sometimes on normal seasons they’ll have the occasional celebrity ex appear).

Hannah Montana, That’s so Raven, Suite life of Zack and Cody, etc. – DISNEY+

The Disney Original shows, what more do you NEED in this time? Binge watch all the OG shows from your childhood, not to mention all the big school music films. AND A HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL TV SERIES? What more do you NEED WOW. This one is definitely a childhood pleasure. Not to mention all the incredible movies and the Star Wars original from Disney available also!

Jack Ryan – AMAZON PRIME

This series staring John Krasinski is apparently incredible. 2 seasons are available on Amazon Prime and it is explosive and I have heard nothing but good things and good ratings for it. Action packed and a great storyline also! Another one to add to your watch list.

White Gold – NETFLIX

An amazing comedy staring Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl and Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas this is the greatest laugh. Based in Essex, 3 double glazing salesmen trying to make money. I personally found the series absolutely hilarious. The characters, the storyline, the cockiness go of Ed Westwick’s character just seals the deal. A great and comical watch with 2 seasons available.

Noughts + Crosses – BBC iPLAYER

A recent adaptation on Malorie Blackman’s book series Noughts + Crosses on BBC iPlayer, I definitely recommend the books and the TV Series! The first season is 6 episodes long, its gritty and covers so many topics which are usually not discussed, its action packed and the storyline is awesome, its incredible really and also features Stormzy in the last episode! The books are also amazing, I’ve read the 5 book series twice!

There are so many more great shows and films to watch out there but these are just a few of my favourites / ones that have been recommended not to miss!

What have you watched / Been watching during your Isolation? Let me know!
